PhD project Title:
Organic electrochemistry: strategies for building sp3-rich heterocycles
Abstract of the PhD project:
In recent years, organic electrochemistry has emerged as a powerful and sustainable approach in synthetic chemistry, offering efficient alternatives to traditional methodologies. By using electrons as reagents, electrochemical transformations allow a reduction in the use of hazardous chemicals and the generation of waste, in accordance with the general principles of green chemistry. Within this context, my PhD project, in collaboration with Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A., focuses on the development of electrochemical strategies for the construction of sp³-rich heterocycles, structural motifs of increasing importance in modern medicinal chemistry. The project aims to explore the potential of electrochemistry as a versatile tool for the selective activation and functionalization of organic molecules. Overall, this research seeks to contribute to the advancement of sustainable synthetic methodologies for the preparation of complex molecular architectures of potential pharmaceutical interest, strengthening the link between academic research and industrial applications.
