Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an endogenous gasotransmitter endowed with pleiotropic effects. At physiological levels, it regulates the homeostasis of several systems, including the cardiovascular one. Many studies demonstrated that H2S deficiency is strongly associated to many cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases, ranging from hypertension to atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
