PhD project Title:

Bio based nanocarriers for nucleic acids delivery

Abstract of the PhD project:

My doctoral research fellowship is sponsored by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan ( PNRR), and in particular by the PNRR initiative entitled “ National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology ””. The PhD project focuses on exosomes, small membrane bound extracellular vesicles (EVs) released by all cell types, that hold great potential as carrier s for nucleic acid delivery owning to their nanoscale size, high biocompatibility and low immunogenicity. The main objectives of the project are the medium to large scale isolation, purification, and characterization of exosomes from different biological sources , along with their loading with DNA/RNA molecules of interest. Furthermore, the possibility of EVs manipulation to confer specificity towards selected target cell types will be pursued. These data will be use ful to validate EVs as a novel, fully biological technological platform for nucleic acid delivery.
