PhD project Title:
Development of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism modulators as potential therapeutic and diagnostic agents
Abstract of the PhD project:
My research project is focused on the synthesis of novel small molecules interfering with cell metabolism, particularly glucose and lipid metabolism, applied in relevant pathologies, such as neurodegenerative and cancer diseases. In particular, I am currently working on two specific research lines: the first one concerns the design and synthesis of new reversible inhibitors of monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL); the second one is focused on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of novel inhibitors of the scavenger receptor CD36. Both the research lines could represent an innovative strategy to tackle tumor metabolism and to expand the pharmacological therapies available.
