PhD project Title:
Design and realization of cross-linking processes for hyaluronic acid and bioactive molecules to develop and implement innovative formulations for medical/cosmetic use
Abstract of the PhD project:
In recent years, research into products based on Hyaluronic Acid (HA) has become increasingly cutting-edge thanks also to the intrinsic properties of this natural polysaccharide.
Hyaluronic acid possesses a well-known biocompatibility and biodegradability profile and important functional and structural roles within the organism. Furthermore, HA and its derivatives show wide interest in several areas, especially in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. For example, these compounds are exploited to form hydrogels for use in tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and cosmetics. For the above-mentioned reasons, the identification and development of new HA-based formulations is currently the subject of considerable interest. Hence, my PhD project is based on cross-linking reactions to produce hydrogels of hyaluronic acid and bioactive substances with appropriate characteristics, in order to obtain innovative formulations for industrial applications.
