In Vitro Models of Diabetes: Focus on Diabetic Retinopathy

Congratulations to our Ph.D. student Giulia Galgani for her publication entitled “In Vitro Models of Diabetes: Focus on Diabetic Retinopathy” on Cells. Diabetic retinopathy is a major eye complication in patients with diabetes mellitus, which causes endothelial damage and vascular lesions, leading to ischemic conditions in certain areas of the retina. The use of different animal species for treatments testing leads to heterogenic results and ethical concerns; therefore, our review features an overview of the new in vitro models used to date.
